Questions concerning FASM
KXD company's (Germany) questions concerning FASM technology.

Example: there is a truck engine with service life of 12,000 hours or 1,000,000 km. (6 cylinders; 12 liters; 300 h/p; 2,000 rotations per minute).

Question 1: Is it possible using FASM technology to machine cylinders and pistons in such a way that automobile's run increases, for instance, up to 18,000 hours or 1,500,000 km.?
Answer: Experience of introduction of FASM technology at Russia's motor producing plants has shown that it is possible to increase the run of an automobile up to 18,000 hours/1,500,000 km. due to the reduction in wear of cylinder sleeves, piston rings, and pistons.

Question 2: Is it possible using FASM technology to machine the surfaces of pistons and cylinders and in such a way reduce the amount of hard deposition particles in exhaust gases of diesel engines with horse-power more than 150 h/p from 0.15 (EUPO-2) to 0.1 (EUPO-3)?
Answer: Experience of introducing FASM technology leads to a conclusion that consumption of oil drops by 20-30% from the given level. This causes the decrease in the amount of hard deposition particles; however, particular figure can be determined by testing particular engine.

Question 3: Is FASM technology applicable for machining of only cylinders and pistons? Can it be used to machine surfaces of other parts?
Answer: FASM technology can be used to machine surfaces of other parts: crank necks, openings for crank inserts, connecting rods, etc.

Question 4: Is any lubricant brought into recess parts, or the uneven parts are just smoothed out?
Answer: FASM technology machining is conducted without use of lubricating and cooling liquids. On the surface the flat top micro-relief is formed with anti-friction substances, which are part of honing stick, being fixed on the vertexes of micro-relief. In doing this the marks from previous machining are left free for oil. Anti-friction material does not burn out when engine is running and remains during all service life.

Question 5: Are there any practical results on introduction of FASM technology?
Answer: FASM technology is introduced in the following plants: Volgograd motor plant, Altai motor plant, Riga diesel-building plant, "Vasil Kolarov" plant (Bulgaria, Varna), "Motordetal" Kostroma plant, "Dieselmash" Balakovo plant.
